Throwback Technine Gear

June 27th, 2009

I thought it would be cool to start a weekly throwback blog showing you some of our oldies and give the newbies some Technine history and a glimpse of where we came from… Here is one of the first actual technical riding baseball jackets introduced to snowboarding.  Artwork is done by my old friend Keet who is now tattooing in Atlanta at Liberty Tattoo.  If you have photos of classic Technine gear and wanna share them, send them to cole@technine.com and you might get blogged…peace

Trainspotting…Technine Style

May 14th, 2009

Over the years, weve had alot of Graff running all over the city, most of which is now buffed over, but theyre legacy continues in alot of our artwork youll see today in our boards, bindings and outerwear.  Every now and then if your lucky, youll see a Technine logo on a freight or coal car representing its origin from the spray can and rolling up and down the line throughout the states.  Here is a freight from a few years back done by our boy Snipe which was seen chilling at one of the downtown yards here in SLC the other day.  This piece was featured on this years graff print in our outerwear.  Pretty sick that noone has gone over it and is still runnin!

heres a couple more you may recognize from FODT films.  painted by Snipe

“Guess how many stairs” CONTEST!

April 8th, 2009

This past summer a few of our riders and I got this crazy idea to build a monster wood handrail in my backyard.  This beast was a much bigger project than we anticipated.  Jonah claimed he had carpenter skills in his genes and it wouldnt take but a few days to build.  Yeah Right..We convinced MFM we needed this baby in our new movie “Hard To Earn” so he funded the project and off we go.  Heres a few photos from the build incase you too want your own wooden.  Oh yeah, the first person to guess the number of stairs wins a Technine Tshirt and exclusive “Hard to Earn” stickers.  enjoy and stay tuned for footage from the rail in the new MFM/FODT movie this fall!

This is day one..it took several more to remove all the rocks, weeds, trees and level everything off before we could actually start the build.

Dylan and Jonah begin the hole digging process..its not much fun digging 3 foot deep holes for ten posts in but hey its gotta get done.

Next phase..prepping materials. here Im cutting the railroad tie stairs to length. If your cutting old railroad ties be sure to wear a mask. these suckers are full of toxic chemicals that burn off the wood when using a chainsaw.

we used 2 foot, 1/4 inch rod iron stakes to make sure the stairs could hold up to the impact of snowboards smashing down on them. Grinding sharp points on them help when driving them into a rocky ground.

when installing the stairs, its important that you pack the dirt well, level the stairs and follow a string from top to bottom to keep everything balanced and uniform.

Once the stairs are finished, your ready to pour cement and install the posts demonstrated by Jace. We used 4x6's for extra strength. I remember one year filming for Love Hate, Corey Smith broke through a wooden we were filming. It was gnarly, didnt want that to happen again!

After all the hard work, this is what we ended up with..not bad and we ended up getting some pretty ill footage for the movie and also look for a "sick days" feature in one of next years issues of Snowboarder Magazine!

T9 Crew in Andorra

March 19th, 2009

Welcome to Part 2 of the T9 crew goes to Spain post…

After having a sick time in Spain we packed up the van and headed to Andorra.  For anyone who has not heard of Andorra it’s a small country that sits between Spain and France.  Andorra is situated in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains and is the 6th smallest country in Europe.

We arrived at the hotel super late and we were all stoked to see this flyer hanging in the lobby.

The next day after shooting we stopped by a snowboard shop in El Tarter called Loaded.  If you ever make it up to Andorra make sure you stop by.  These guys are super cool and the store is sick.  Much props to Peter and Sam.  Loaded is dope.

Gooner found this big old bottle of whisky in the shop and had to crack it.

Peter and Sam pulled out an old Technine Split T Classic and had the crew sign it up.

Jose enjoying a cold San Miguel.

Jose hooked us up with a local rider named Merlin who’s family owned one of the hotels in town.  Besides riding the sick mountains of Andorra Merlin runs a club attached to the hotel called Nemo.  The hotel pool has a window so you can see the pool from the bar.

Yan and Jake Chilling at Nemo’s

The next morning we got up early to hit a sweet 23 stair down bar.  This Bull dog came out and hung with us for most of the session.  Peep the new Technine Rhyme board and bindings in the back ground.

Next we went to this cool ally way rail to drop that Jake had set up.  Every time we would get a session going a large crowd would form to watch.  This crowd would not even move for traffic it was nuts.

Jake Devine standing in the streets of Pas De La Casa, Andorra after pulling his trick.

Next it was off to check out a cool local shop called Sector 3.

Sector 3 was jam packed with customers but we did get the crew out of the shop for a second to take this group shot.

Jose kept telling us that we could use his snowmobile anytime, this is him sitting on it.  You can just make out the ski in the bottom right corner of that ice chunk.  This sled is not going anywhere.

The next night after a sick day of shooting it was time for our Video Premiere in Nemo’s.  Here’s Gooner getting hyped on shots of Monster.

Loaded crew!

Merlin popped a bottle to get the party started right.

The Crew.

After the movie played T.K. got on the mic and killed it.  Thats Chino on the turn tables.  Chino is a sick local D.J. and rider.  He also threw up a sick “Hard to Earn” burner for us on one of our jibs in Town.  Thanks for everything Chino!

Gooner getting stoked on T.K.

Yan having a good time.

Merlin tossed out a complete Technine girls set up to an eager crowd.

The winner staking her claim.

Brice from Sector 3 and Peter from Loaded

E-Stone, Chino and Danni Boy.

Gooner and Yan with Nico and Brice from Sector 3.

The next day it was back to work and of course a visit from the Po Po.  Apparently the residents of this high end condo complex were not to stoked on our Pole Jam.

Gooner in the streets of  Pas De La Casa.  Check out the new Gooner Yucky Charms board and bindings.

Peep the scrub hooks on his bindings.  Some new sh!t coming this fall.

Pas De La Casa

Special thanks to Jose, Dani, Guille, Chino and Merlin.  Jose and his crew set everything up for us and and without them this trip would never have happened.  Look for the story in Snowboarder Magazine as well as the new movie “Hard To Earn” coming out this fall.  Some sick action went down so be sure not to miss it.
